"I honed in on my target."

Wrong. A very common error. Right: "I homed in on my target." "To hone" is to sharpen. "To home in" is to aim at a target (home).

"Hone in on" has been used incorrectly so often that it is accepted in some circles. Nevertheless it is an alteration of the correct terminology and should not be used. An editor should always correct it.
